Verses 6-7 The Message
While they were there, the time came for her to
give birth. She gave birth to a son, her firstborn.
She wrapped him in a blanket and laid him in a
manger, because there was no room in the hostel.
Verses 8-14 Good News Translation
The Shepherds and the Angels
There were some shepherds in that part of the
country who were spending the night in the fields,
taking care of their flocks. An angel of the Lord
appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone
over them. They were terribly afraid, but the angel
said to them, “Don’t be afraid! I am here with good
news for you, which will bring great joy to all the
people. This very day in David’s town your Savior
was born—Christ the Lord! And this is what will
prove it to you: you will find a baby wrapped in
cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great army of heaven’s angels
appeared with the angel, singing praises to God:
“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on
earth to those with whom he is pleased!”
Verses 15-20 New Revised Standard Version
When the angels had left them and gone into
heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let us
go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has
taken place, which the Lord has made known to
us.’ So they went with haste and found Mary and
Joseph, and the child lying in the manger. When
they saw this, they made known what had been
told them about this child; and all who heard it
were amazed at what the shepherds told them.
But Mary treasured all these words and pondered
them in her heart. The shepherds returned,
glorifying and praising God for all they had heard
and seen, as it had been told them.
