Walking With The Word Of God
A devotion for 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time - 14 June 2026 · by Jacob Adofo
Theme: God of the Impossible and Compassionate
Scriptures: Genesis 18:1-15 & Matthew 9:35-10:8
Key Scriptures: Genesis 18:14: “Is anything too hard for
the Lord?”
Matthew 9:36: “When he saw the crowds, he had
compassion on them.”
Meaning
God operates beyond human limitations and responds
deeply to human suffering. In Genesis, God promises a
son to an elderly, laughing Sarah, proving that no situation
is too dead for His intervention. In Matthew, Jesus looks
at helpless crowds and moves with deep compassion,
authorizing His disciples to heal and preach freely.
Together, these texts reveal a God who both possesses
unlimited power and applies it out of pure love.
Benefits
Strengthened Faith: Reminds you that your current
impossibilities are standard ground for God’s power.
Renewed Purpose: Shifts your focus from your own
limitations to the harvest fields of service.
Deep Comfort: Assures you that God sees your
helplessness and moves toward you with love.
Story: The Missing Invitation
Mama Elena sat at her kitchen table, staring at a stack of
past-due medical bills and a failing diagnosis. She felt like
Sarah — dry, weary, and tempted to laugh bitterly at any
promise of hope. That afternoon, her neighbour Clara
knocked on the door, bringing a warm meal and an offer
to pay for Mama Elena’s next prescription. Clara had no
idea about the exact amount needed, but she felt a strong,
sudden nudge to help. In that quiet kitchen, Mama Elena
realized God had not forgotten her; He had simply moved
someone else’s heart with compassion to answer her
impossible situation.
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for laughing in doubt when situations
look impossible. Fill my heart with your deep compassion
for those around me. Use my hands to bring your healing
and hope to a hurting world today. In Jesus mighty and
matchless name I pray.
Amen.
