Walking With The Word Of God
A devotion for 10th Sunday in Ordinary Time - 7 June 2026 · by Jacob Adofo
Theme: Living examples of faith in God
Concluding Story: The Master Weaver
Key Scripture
An apprentice spent years spinning coarse, gray wool in
a dark cellar. One morning, the Master Weaver walked in,
looked at the apprentice, and said, “Leave your wheel and
follow me to the upper room.” The apprentice dropped
the wool immediately. In the light above, the Master
handed him vibrant, golden threads and taught him to
weave a masterpiece for the king’s palace.
Genesis 12:1-4a : “The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Go from
your country, your people and your father’s household to
the land I will show you...’. So Abram went, as the Lord had
told him.”
Matthew 9:9 : “As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man
named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. ‘Follow
me,’ he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.”
Meaning God’s call requires immediate, radical trust.
Abram left his homeland for an unknown promise.
Matthew left a lucrative career at a single word from
Jesus. Both passages highlight that following God means
leaving behind the comfortable, the familiar, and even the
compromised past to step into a divinely directed future.
Benefits
Divine Purpose: Swapping human routine for
a God-given destiny.
Spiritual Renewal: Leaving behind past labels to receive
a fresh start.
Generational Blessing: Becoming a channel of God’s
grace to others.
The moral of this story is that, you cannot weave the
beautiful future God has planned for you if you refuse to
let go of the old, dark threads of your past.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, give me the courage of Abram and
Matthew to move when You speak. Help me leave behind
my comfort zones, past mistakes, and false securities. I
trust Your direction for my life. Guide my steps into Your
perfect will today. Amen.
