Walking With The Word Of God
A devotion for the 6th Sunday of Easter · by Jacob Adofo
Theme: The Promise of the Advocate
The Story: The Lighthouse Keeper
Scripture: John 14: 15-21
An old lighthouse keeper was once asked if he ever
felt lonely on his isolated rock. He smiled and pointed
to the steady, rotating beam. “I am never alone,” he
said. “The light requires my care, but in the dark of
night, it is the light that keeps me company. It tells me
where I am, and it tells the world I am still here.”
Key Scripture: John 14:15–17
“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the
Father, and he will give you another advocate to help
you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.”
Meaning
As we approach the end of the Easter season, Jesus
prepares his disciples for his physical departure. He
promises that they will not be left as “orphans.” The
Advocate (or Paraclete) is the Holy Spirit, who bridges
the gap between Christ’s earthly ministry and our
daily lives. True love for God isn’t just a feeling; it is
expressed through obedience and the indwelling of the
Holy Spirit.
Benefits
Constant Companionship: You are never alone; the
Spirit of Truth abides with you forever.
Divine Guidance: The Advocate provides wisdom to
navigate life’s complexities.
Like the lighthouse beam, the Holy Spirit is our steady
“light” in the dark. We are called to “tend the lamp”
through prayer and obedience, but ultimately, it is the
Spirit’s presence that provides the security and identity
we need to stand firm against the waves of life.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of the Holy
Spirit. In moments of uncertainty, remind us that
Your Advocate is by our side. Help us to live out Your
commands not from duty, but from a heart of love. May
Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard
our hearts and minds this week. In the name of the
Risen Christ.
Amen.
Inner Peace: Even in trials, the Holy Spirit offers a peace
that the world cannot give.
