Walking With The Word Of God
A devotion for the 2nd Sunday of Easter · by Jacob Adofo
Theme: From Locked Rooms to Open Hearts
Scriptures: Acts 2: 14a, 22-32 and John 20: 19-31
Overcoming Doubt: The resurrection guarantees
that our struggles are not in vain, and the Holy Spirit
empowers us to overcome.
Key Scriptures:
Acts 2:24: “But God raised him up, having freed him
from the agony of death, because it was not possible
for him to be held in its power.”
Blessing of Faith: We receive a special blessing for
believing in the unseen reality of the risen Savior.
John 20:29: “Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have
seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who
have not seen and yet have believed.’”
In the early days of Christianity, a newly converted
artist was asked by a skeptic, “How can you worship a
man you never saw? It sounds like fairy tales.” The artist
smiled and replied, “I cannot see the wind, yet
I feel it moving the leaves. I cannot see my own brain,
yet I know I can think. But more importantly, I look at
the believers who were once terrified and broken, and
now they are walking with courage, joy, and sacrificial
love. I see the risen Christ in them. I believe not just in a
historical fact, but in a present reality.”
Meaning: In Acts 2, Peter boldly proclaims that Jesus
is alive, transforming the shame of the crucifixion into
a victory of resurrection. Death could not hold him.
Meanwhile, John 20 shows the disciples locked away in
fear, despite hearing reports of the risen Jesus. Jesus
appears, offering peace and breathing the Holy Spirit
upon them. When Thomas doubts, Jesus meets him
with compassion, proving his wounds. This narrative
moves us from fear-filled doubt to a firm conviction that
Jesus is Lord, even when we cannot see him with our
eyes.
Benefits:
Peace in Fear: Jesus enters our “locked rooms”—our
anxieties and fears—and speaks peace.
Purpose: We are sent out, just as Jesus was sent by the
Father, to share his grace.
Concluding Story: The “Unseen” Evidence
Concluding Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for breaking through the locked
doors of our fears and doubts. When we are hesitant,
meet us with Your peace and show us Your wounded
hands. Breathe Your Holy Spirit upon us, that we may
move from fear to faith, and from doubt to declaration.
Help us to be witnesses of Your resurrection to a world
that desperately needs hope. We worship You, our Lord
and our God.
Amen.
