Walking With The Word Of God
A devotion for the 2nd Sunday of Lent · by Jacob Adofo
THEME: The Gift of New Beginnings
SCRIPTURE: John 3:3, 16-17 (KJV)
“Jesus answered and said unto him, verily, verily,
I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he
cannot see the kingdom of God... For God so loved
the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whoever believeth in him should not perish, but
have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into
the world to condemn the world; but that the world
through him might be saved.”
The Meaning:
This passage captures a late-night conversation
between Jesus and Nicodemus, a religious leader
seeking truth. Jesus reveals that entering God’s
kingdom isn’t about working harder or following
more rules; it requires a spiritual rebirth. Just as we
did not choose or earn our physical birth, this “birth
from above” is a gift from God through the Holy
Spirit. It is the ultimate expression of God’s love –
not to judge or condemn us, but to rescue us
through His Son.
The Benefits:
Eternal Life: Believers receive a life that is not just
never-ending, but also of a divine, heavenly quality.
Freedom from Condemnation: You can live in peace
knowing Jesus came to save you, not to point fingers
at your past.
Transformation: The Holy Spirit works like the wind,
often moving in unseen but powerful ways to change
your heart and guide you to places you never
imagined.
Inclusion: This offer is “for whoever”—no matter how
messy or lost a person feels, the door to God’s family
is open.
Concluding Short Story:
A man once felt so weighed down by his mistakes
that he believed he was beyond repair. He spent
years trying to “fix” himself by doing good deeds,
but the guilt remained. One evening, he heard the
story of Nicodemus and realized that he didn’t need
to fix his old life; he needed a new one. He stopped
trying to earn God’s favour and simply asked for this
spiritual rebirth. In that moment of surrender, the
heavy burden of shame lifted. He felt like a brandnew person — born again not of flesh, but of Spirit —
and finally began to live as a loved child of God.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your immeasurable
love. Thank You for sending Jesus not to condemn
me, but to save me. I ask that Your Holy Spirit breathe
new life into my heart today. Help me to trust in Your
grace rather than my own efforts. Open my eyes to
see Your kingdom and lead me in Your light.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
